I am often asked to share more about the mental game of fitness (staying consistent… Eating clean… Passing up temptation… Etc.). I wrote this blog post about “how much is enough? how much is too much?”
http://www.stephaniekeenan.com/2012/10/23/the-secret-to-success/We are blessed to be able to dedicate time and energy to our health. I was taught this lesson when I spent 2 months working with several coworkers with disabilities… Obsessing over the number on the scale quickly goes away when you see people making their way through life deaf, blind, suffering from debilitating MS.
Sticking to the basics will get you there every time. Nutrition is king. Training is queen. All of the little tips and tricks in between are just that… The in-between.
But NONE of this happens without the right mindset and the right mindset starts with gratitude. How can I express more gratitude? Getting out of our comfortable lives and seeing what real struggle looks like is an express route to gratitude…
Visit a developing country… Take a walk down the hall of a children’s hospital oncology floor… When we express gratitude and fill our lives with meaningful work (volunteer counts too!), we are much less likely to sink into the cycle of frustration.
I challenge you to replace whatever you are doing when you feel frustration sinking in with something meaningful that will ultimately bring you are someone else true, authentic happiness.
